Legend has it that Baltimoreans rode the streetcars late at night to cool off from the summer heat. Unwind with a trip down memory lane with our version of a sidecar. Remy Martin, Cointreau, fresh squeezed lemon juice served up in a sugar rimmed glass.
During a dinner party in Saratoga, New York in 1868, Maryland’s then Governor, Oden Bowie, suggested a horse race to be held in Baltimore. Two years later, Pimlico was a model racetrack. Baltimore Sun reporter H.L. Mencken had a nose for national controversy, and traveled to Tennessee in 1925 to report on the historic Scopes trial; a man charged with teaching the theory of evolution to schoolchildren. Then-Mayor William Donald Schaefer’s 1975 request for a new nickname to promote and refresh Baltimore’s image was given to a team of execs. They came up with ‘Charm City’. Dolly Hyde Mule
Copper mines operated in Maryland from colonial times until the 1850s, in three mining districts. The most productive was in Frederick County called the Dolly Hyde mine.

In 1808, the British intercepted a Baltimore ship and demanded a tax on each gallon of gin aboard. This prompted thousands of angry citizens and sailors to parade to Hampstead Hill (now Patterson Park) to watch the destruction of 720 gallons of gin. Don't let yours go to waste.
